On January 16, the Rochester Symphony held the annual auditions for the Young Artist Competition. This year's winner is Christine Wu, who will be performing the Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto in B flat minor, 1st movement, with the Rochester Symphony on March 12, 8 p.m. at Stoney Creek High School Auditorium. Christine Wu, a senior at Troy High School, began playing piano at the age of five. She has been studying with Logan Skelton from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor for the past four years.

Christine was named 2010 NFAA Young Arts Honorable Mention Award Winner in Classical Piano (National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, Arts Recognition and Talent Search). Recently, she was one of six finalists in the 2009 International Institute of Young Musicians Piano Competition, and was featured on a live Kansas Public Radio broadcast. She won second prize in the Fite Family Piano Competition in 2009, and was a semifinalist in the 2008 Eastman Young Artist's International Piano Competition. In May of 2008, Christine was a featured soloist with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, where she performed the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1. In addition, Christine is also a top prizewinner in numerous local and statewide competitions.

Christine is also a first violinist in the Troy High Symphony Orchestra. She has been an active member of the Tuesday Musicale Student League of Detroit since 2005, and frequently volunteers for Project LEAD and the Troy High National Honors Society.
